Description: The Galactic Empire has run out of steam. Their elite
soldiers, the Galaxy Rangers, who were trained int the
special combat disciplines of the Cosmic Forge, have
now disbanded and gone their separate ways. All too
of them have become mercenaries, selling their services
to the highest bidder, or even out-and-out bandits.
Regional governors now have direct control. Many
sectors have splintered still further, descending
The PCs are a band of former Galaxy Rangers, and they
now make a living as mercenaries too. Being the good
guys, however, they retain their noble ideals and won't
work for evil causes. Makes work a bit scarce for them,
but that's what being the good guys is all about.
Just for fun, make it a TL 6+3 world, using mega-Vacuum
Tubes. If nobody wants to play the engineer with
frizzled white hair and a German accent, you have to
put him in as an NPC.
Society organized along the lines of hereditary social roles. "I am of the Warrior class"
The society is in the process of losing knowledge, wealth and/or cohesion. Ex: North American Indians in 19th century, tribal peoples internationally throughout the late 20th century
Faster-than-light star travel, sentient computers, mature genetic engineering, nanotechology, longevity, particle-beam blaster, cold fusion, panimmunity, brain-tapes, complex implants, suspended animation, automedic; similar to Babylon 5 or Star Trek's Enterprise era
Starfaring (TL 9)
Technology in this world has followed an alternate path, such as the mega-Vacuum Tube tech in GURPS Lensman.
